The den mother is not an official title given by ceremony, but
is often given to the most nurturing, motherly figure in the community.
The den mother - or father - disciplines misbehaving pups and teenagers, and
provides a safe, open haven for any children in the community. They
will take in orphans if something happens to parents within the packs,
and provide a safe place for runaways or strays from other packs.
