The candidates for Alpha male and/or female in a pack are often chosen through a
general nomination in the pack, display of leadership capabilities, and
physical dominance. They hold their titles for as long as no one
challenges them, and they are sound of mind and body. The process tends to be run a differently for each pack, depending on their inclination - some are more old fashioned while some are more progressive.
The Alpha male and female do not have to be married or in a relationship, however they often are, for convenience's sake.
